Bobcats blow it in first round

“With the ninth pick in the 2008 NBA Draft, the Charlotte Bobcats select D.J. Augustin from the University of Texas.”

The last time I checked, the Bobcats already have a lot of money invested in a point guard. Maybe you’ve heard of him? Raymond Felton. I’m not sure what logic was used in making this pick. Do you move Felton over to shooting guard and Augustin run the point? Or vice versa? Maybe Augustin is a back up? Or maybe Raymond Felton’s days are numbered in Charlotte.

So after I get over the shock of that pick, with the 20th overall pick the Bobcats choose 7’1” Center Alexis Ajinca from France. He averaged a mind boggling 5 points, 6 rebounds in the French Pro A League. I would like to think if I were 7 feet tall that I could stumble into at least 7-8 boards a game. He is wowing me for the wrong reason

As the first round is ending I’m looking at the draft board and this is what I would have envisioned for the Bobcats. They should have drafted 7-footer Brook Lopez out of Stanford with the ninth pick. Why? Brook Lopez has the potential to a force in the front court. Put him beside Emeka Okafor and in rotation with Nazr Mohammed and that’s one mean frontline.

As for the 20th selection, if D.J. Augustin is not available, both Chris Douglas-Roberts and Mario Chalmers were still waiting to be drafted (CDR was even around when they selected Kyle Weaver in the second round). You have Raymond Felton in the fold, and CDR and Chalmers are more than capable on the basketball court.

I hope for the sake of basketball in the "Queen City" that this turns out to unfold the way the Bobcats want.

Right now, I just don’t see it.

But then again, I guess if I was such a great evaluator of talent I would be making front office power moves instead of writing this blog.

+++BINGO+++

It is MJ's money, he can draft who he wants.

However, the fans provide the capital for the franchise to remain in the black -- so don't go if they stink.

Looking back, i dont know if actually had anything to do with darko other then sitting his big contract on the bench. But I still stick by what i said. I think I'd pick Brad over Larry Brown, at least Brad might stick around for longer than a couple years

I think this is a fair assessment of the Bobcat's draft. There's no doubt Larry Brown has been part of championship teams. Most of his teams were assembled by the time he got there...He coached what was there and did a good job. The players he has brought in have been questionable. Darko is a blaring example. then mix Coach Brown with Michael Jordan, who's front office resume has never been mistaken for Jerry West's, and you have quite the interesting pair running the franchise. Remember, it was Jordan who traded Rip Hamilton to the Pistons for Jerry Stackhouse. I think we know who got the better deal on that one. I want it to work out for the Bobcats, but i feel like it will be an up hill climb.

Larry Brown drafted Darko Milicec NUFF SAID!

Hmmmm let's see.... Brad Simmons/Larry Brown... Larry Brown/Brad Simmons... I think I will have to go with the only coach who has won a NCAA and NBA Championship, no offense Braddie.
