Apex, N.C. — A 46-year-old Garner man drowned in the Poplar Point Park area of Jordan Lake on Saturday, park officials said.
Wildlife officials said Edmund Phillip McKibbin and two friends were staying at the Poplar Point campground. They took a boat out on Jordan Lake and anchored in about 15 feet from shore in water between 7 and 15 feet deep.
The two other campers told authorities that they were swimming when they heard a splash. They never saw McKibbin resurface, officials said.
Dive teams and emergency medical workers responded to calls about the drowning around 11:30 a.m. and searched the lake for hours.
McKibbin's body was recovered and has been sent to the Office of the State Chief Medical Examiner in Chapel Hill.
