Fayetteville, N.C. — A jury on Thursday sentenced a New York City man to life in prison for the 2005 slayings of a Fort Bragg soldier and a teenage girl in a Cumberland County home.

James Stitt, 22, was convicted last week of first-degree murder in the death of Jenna Bologna, 16, and second-degree murder in the death of George Katsigiannis, 21. He also was convicted of robbery in the case.

After several hours of deliberations over two days, jurors voted unanimously Thursday morning to sentence Stitt to life in prison without parole in Bologna's death.

The West Palm Beach, Fla., teen and Katsigiannis, a member of the Army's 3rd Special Forces Group stationed at Fort Bragg, were shot to death in February 2005 inside the home they shared with Stitt.

Stitt was arrested a few days later in Brooklyn, N.Y. Authorities said he had taken Katsigiannis' car.
