Site SearchRaleigh, N.C. — Thousands of Triangle college students received their diplomas on Saturday. Every college and university in the Triangle will hold graduations over the Mother’s Day weekend except N.C. Central – its ceremony was last weekend.
More than 4,000 degrees were handed out at N.C. State University on Saturday. More than 100 of those graduates were recognized for a perfect 4.0 grade-point average. The ceremony was held at the RBC Center in Raleigh.
Saturday also marked the 141st graduation ceremony at Saint Augustine's College, where 168 degrees were handed out. It has been 30 years since the ceremony was held on campus.
Peace College also held its graduation ceremony on campus, and Shaw University held its at Dorton Arena at the fairgrounds.
Nearly 500 Broncos headed to Crown Coliseum to receive their diplomas as Fayetteville State University celebrated its 141st spring commencement.
On Sunday, commencement will be held at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Among the graduates will be six students from the inaugural C-STEP class.
C-STEP is a program working with community colleges to help low- and middle-income students pay for their educations.
The ceremony will move to the Dean E. Smith Center if there is severe weather, rain accompanied by thunder, lightning and high winds.
At Duke University, officials will hand out more than 4,000 degrees on Sunday. About 16,000 people are expected to attend.
At Meredith College, 275 students will get also their diplomas at the school's McIver Amphitheater.
