Tassel-turning time again: Thousands to graduate

Tassel-turning weekend: Thousands to graduate

Thousands of local college students will receive their diplomas this weekend. Every college and university in the Triangle will hold graduations except N.C. Central – its ceremony was last weekend.

More than 4,000 degrees will be handed out at N.C. State on Saturday. More than 100 of those graduates will be recognized for a perfect 4.0 grade-point average. The ceremony will be held at the RBC Center in Raleigh.

Also, Saturday, it's the 141st graduation at Saint Augustine's College. It will be the first time in 30 years the event will be held on school grounds.

That same day, Peace College will hold graduation on its campus, and Shaw University students and parents will be at Dorton Arena on the State Fairgrounds.

On Sunday, commencement will be held at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Among the graduates will be six students from the inaugural C-STEP class.

C-STEP is a program working with community colleges to help low- and middle-income students pay for their educations.

At Duke University, officials will hand out more than 4,000 degrees. About 16,000 people are expected to attend.

At Meredith College in Raleigh, 275 students will march. That event will be held at the McIver Amphitheater on campus.
