about money savers
If ever there was a time to pinch pennies, this is it.
With gas prices hovering steadily between: "This is ridiculous" and "Oh.My.GOD" we're all in need of a break.
From coupons and cheap gas to rebates to good old-fashioned money saving tips handed down from your grandmother, this is the place to enlighten others who share your pain.
In this group we will share new and interesting ideas on ways to cut corners and save a few bucks along the way and we may even hear from WRAL's own Monica Laliberte.

Tell all your friends/family that you will henceforth be known as the town hermit: no invitations, no charitable-giving, no gift-exchanges. Only wash your clothes when your fumes make people pass out - this will save on utility bills & accentuate the hermit effect.
The ultimate money saver: Stop paying your federal taxes and gamble that you can get away with it. If you do get audited, change your identity and head for the border (i.e. Mexico, not TacoBell).

Anytime I go somewhere that has a drive-thru & there's more than 1 or 2 cars ahead of me, I park, get out & go inside to buy or bank.
A couple of days ago, I went to the CLAYTON HARDEES. Didn't see anyone ahead of me until AFTER I'd given my order & drove around to pay & pick up my order. There was a car sitting at the window. I waited about 15 seconds & nothing was happening at the window. I finally decided to shut my car off because I had a feeling they'd be there for awhile. Thank goodness I did, because I sat there FIVE MINS. before their order arrived at the window & they drove off. What a colossal waste of gas that would have been-I drive a Dodge Magnum with a hemi!
It seems that most of the time Burger King in Clayton will tell you to pull forward if your order is not ready & some of the Mickey Ds do this too, so at least you can shut your car off if you want to. What's up with you Hardees??

I'm gradually getting around to checking out all the groups on GOLO & joining them, so I finally made it to this one.
I'm interested in saving money, but not to the point of being cheap.
I rarely clip coupons, because either I don't use most of the products, or it's not worth paying a higher price to "buy 2" national-brand items to get a measley $.50 or $1.00 off-sorry! I usually stick to buying store brand on a LOT of items-no matter which grocery store I'm in.
Occasionally, when I see them, we do use coupons for meals in restaurants or pizza or something special like that. Generally, I don't have or take the time to peruse coupon flyers.
I do economize at home by turning off lights when leaving a room, turning off ceiling fans when not at home, & saving water in various ways. There is more that we can do, but haven't, yet.
I've gone to four 10-hr days at work to save gas. I walk wherever I can at lunch instead of drive-post office, store, etc.

Mention 'esavymom' sent you (that's my username on there) in the Registration "how did you hear about us?" section.
I've learned TONS from this site. And there is usually a weekly post by Sue Stock at the top of the Grocery and Drugstore categories.
Another good site is Faye Prosser's Resources page- she lists several other websites that are very handy: http://smartspendingresources.com/resources.html
