A breif history of the show:

Andy Taylor was sheriff of sleepy Mayberry, North Carolina (pop. 1,200). Episodes depict Andy's attempts to raise his young son Opie, and his and Barney's efforts to maintain law in a virtually crime-free town. Residing with Andy at his home at 14 Maple Street is Aunt Bee, who helps care for Opie.

Helping make Andy's life interesting is a town full of
colorful characters, all were like family. Scatterbrained
and busybody Floyd the Barber was always so awed by the world that went on around him.

Emmmet Clark, operator of the Fix-It-Shop, tried to keep pace with his younger companions.

Otis Campbell, served time in the very minimum
security jail, where he voluntarily committed himself for his regular Saturday night visit.

Howard Sprague, straitlaced and catered to his mother's every wish.

Ernest T. Bass, the loony hillbilly who would throw rocks through the townfolk's windows.

Gomer Pyle, the attendant at Wally's Service Station

Andy had several girlfriends over the years:

Ellie Walker, the new lady druggist;

Mary Simpson, the county nurse;

Peggy McMillan, the rich girl that Barney forbid Andy
to see;

Helen Crump, Opie's school teacher. Helen
and Andy got married at the end of the series.

And then there was Barney Fife, whose body looked as fragile as his ego was. The 97-pound lovable imcompetent. Andy never allowed him to carry more than one bullet, and that had to be carried in his pocket and not in his gun. Barney was childish and goofy. Sometimes he did things that were so infuriating that we wanted to give him a swift kick in the county seat. Andy often helped Barney save face, as when he'd lay the groundwork for an arrest and then let Barney accept the praise. And Barney would accept the praise.

ALL OF IT!

I was fortunate enough to be an extra on the set several times in wilmington, for his other show. He could be real demanding and down right arrogant. But... But, you have to give it to the man, for years he traveled from L.A. to home, almost weekly, between shows. He earned enough respect to demand they start filming in N.C. so he could be closer to his ailing wife. He talked to her several times a day, between scenes. And in todays hollywood society with all the sex and divorces, this is a man who for better and worse has chosen to stick with his family.These younger "stars" could learn something from him. I think its safe to say that most everyone who's had a chance to be around him really respects him.

OMG! I saw the episode tonight where Aunt Bea bought the elixir and was drunk as Cooter Brown when Andy got home from work - she was playing the piano and had Opie singing! ROFL! I had forgotten all about that one!

and they take this serious ..what was the number to the dinner? 242....

andy's wife is mentioned twice. no name or reason for her being gone. just so happens a customer can recite all the shows lol....what talent. he goes to andy show downs and always wins...we want him to go on john boy and billy.

Oh, respond to my profile.

Does anyone know contact info. for the local ANSFC? I'd love to get into that.

Still the best line ever uttered on the show- Aunt Bee, just call the man. I can say that without smiling. It's like banjo music- you just can't be unhappy while you're listening to it.

"is there someting about the taylor women?"

there must be-as wholesome as the show is, u would think they would have explained the no-mother thing better...hmm

its mentioned the first two shows....cousin thing..i have yet to see the one where opie kills the mother bird

The cousin thing was mentioned twice, right in the first episode with Barney, but it was 'left off later. Something had to explain why Andy was loyal to Barney, and friends, at least in the beginning, but later, it was apparent that Barney was a good person at heart, and even brave, especially considering how scared he was.
