If you want to fertilize every time you water, you need to dilute the fertlizer even more. I think there should be directions on the fertilzer telling you that.
The wrong kind of fertilizer and TOO MUCH will kill.

Uneven watering - Another possibility for what causes bitter cucumber is if a cucumber goes through alternating periods of drought and overwatering, the stress from this can cause the plant to produce bitter fruit.

I hope that someone has some real knowledge of what can cause the problem that Lawpirate inquired about.
For the fun of it, I'll share something that my hubby told me - an "old wives' tale", if you will, about keeping your cukes from tasting bitter. The saying is: "when you cut off the end of a cuke, rub that end on the other end of the cuke, and it won't be bitter".
Just a little fun, but I know that I won't be the only one to try it!
