Eliminate this and that is always easy to say when you are a part of the dominant culture. Do people realize that other minorities have similar situations, events, monikers, etc?
Why do people rail against BET (and believe me, I'm no fan) yet say nothing of Univision and Telemundo? Most major cities have a Miss Chinese American pageant. . any complaints? Miss Indian USA occurs in Washington, DC every year. There are tribal colleges (Haskell Indians Nation University, etc) and predominantly minority colleges (UTEP, and FIU come to mind).
So why the focus on black people, when all minorities have these programs, initiatives etc? Perhaps it's because being a minority in America actually DOES have some challenges/issues that need to be addressed, that the dominant culture is insulated against. It's certainly not limited to blacks.
