charges dropped against 4 in nc shotgun killing
Published Oct. 11, 2008HALIFAX, N.C. — Charges have been dropped against four men accused in the shotgun killing of another man in Roanoke Rapids earlier this year.
The Daily and Sunday Herald of Roanoke Rapids reports a judge ruled Thursday there was no probable cause to continue murder charges against Charles "Ossie" Hockaday, Damien E. "Dang Dang" Mitchell and Trayvon Purnell. Court officials say charges also have been dropped against Robbie A. Jones Jr.
All four men were arrested in the April killing of 29-year-old Jerry Wayne Yellorday. Police say he was shot by two men while he sat in a car. Halifax County Sheriff's Maj. Bruce Temple says the investigation into the killing continued, but would not say if his office still considers the four men suspects.

evidently not if they have let them go on probable cause. That is interesting in how the judge made such a call on his own. It must of been one weak case to start with.
