online vs traditional

Which do you prefer?

Why?

I personally prefer online because I don't think I can pay attention or stay awake long enough to listen to the instructor!

I am currently taking 4 classes...3 online and 1 traditional. THe online courses are going pretty well so far. I am able to take a little time at work during the day and do schoolwork. I also hit the books (and the computer) after my daughter goes to bed at night, usually around 8:30. I try really hard to get myself in bed by 11 so that I won't be so exhausted the next day at work. I am taking my psychology class on campus on Wednesdays, only beacause there is so much information to retain, plus I seem to remember more when I can discuss with the instructor and the class!

I, too, think it depends on the topic. For my early childhood classes, I prefer online, no doubt. I'm pretty familiar with the subject matter and I can sign on at my convience. Working pretty much 12 hour days and still having to have time to do lesson plans (yes, family child care providers have to do lesson plans), menus, attendance, workshops, etc, I can do an online class when it works for me, at 5:30 or midnight.

When it is a class that I may struggle in, such as computer technology or math,,I have to do traditional

I belief that there is life beyond a computer screen. I prefer traditional classroom lectures with discussion. I can walk to class in the fresh air and get exercise.

online. nothing like class in your pajamas or from the Bubba Gumps in Charleston, SC. Traditional, I would have never been able to go to Charleston. Also gives more options. I'm doing online at ECU so I don;t have to fight traffic at UNC or pay ten grand at Duke.

As long as the instructor has an active on-line presence, I'd prefer on-line. Classes always go down better with a cold glass of milk while I'm in my slippers. I've had both - and really prefer both the interaction and the timing of on-line.

I took one course at www.ed2go.com (through WCPSS) and loved it. getting ready to sign up for another.

Not So Dumb said it perfectly. Couldn't agree more.

If it is a subject that I already have experience or knowledge of, then I prefer online. But, if I am going into a subject that is new to me, I prefer traditional because more times than not, an instructor will give real-life senarios and discussion, and I can relate and retain info much better that way.

I think this will be one of those topics were every person is different to an extent, and you are going to be the only one that can really know.

One thing that I have seen though, is the younger generations now do much better with the online courses than we do as their parents. I think it is because they have had the internet and computers their entire lives it is much easier for them.

Both of my kids are in college and do a lot of classes online and do fantastic with it, where I would have a tough time.

Good luck!

traditional - this way can interact/argue with professor when their opinion is wrong

Depends on topic. If it is something I find interesting and/or easy, then online. That way I can run through it at more of my own pace. If it is boring and/or difficult, a good instructor can help make it less so.
