Published Aug. 29, 2008Like everyone today, I was mesmerized by Sarah Palin. What a breath of fresh air. Here is is person who is governor of a great state, and she has managed to steer clear of corruption. Not only steer clear, but to fight it, and win. She has traveled all over her state, and still has managed to save Alaska hundred's of thousands of dollars on the travel budget. Did you hear that? Of course, she probably did NOT travel to Rome, Italy. Her husband actually works for his money as a commercial fisherman, and also in the steel industry. I wonder if he will get a $100K plus raise this year? My whole point, of course, is why does North Carolina have to put up with the cr*p that Gov. Easley has dumped out on us. Sarah Palin is proof that there are honest, fiscally conservative governors in our country who really do care about their state. Sure wish we had one.

Say I am governor and am in the possession of private information that impacts something under my control. Not necessarily anything illegal, mind you, but something that can affect the efficient operation of state business.
I go to the person's superior, explain the situation, request that the offending person be removed from their position, and that superior tells me to shove it.
The next thing that happens is that the superior gets fired on the spot for insuborination.
The difference in this case will lie with what the brother-in-law actually did. If Palin was asserting her authority to fire him simply because he was about to be an ex-brother-in-law, then she has grossly overstepped her authority. But if he was beating her sister, then his continued presence on the force compromises his ability to serve the state and she has every right to fire him -- and his superior for disobeying a direct order.

How about a scenario where the brother-in-law was a violent nut within the context of the marriage to Palin's sister. Palin knows and rather than opening a full review of his mental status as an officer of the law, opts just to have him quietly removed from his position.
Makes as much sense as our paranoid conspiracy theory.
