state loses wilson, gets routed by south carolina, 34-0

Published Aug. 29, 2008

With all due respect to Gamecock and Wolfpack fans, this game was a dud! Neither team appeared that fired up, the crowd was not what I expected for opening day in Columbia, but most of all both offenses were anemic for three quarters. USC had better get a whole lot better fast if they expect to compete in the SEC. Expectations were low for the Pack anyway although in all honesty, I expected better.

I think had State not lost Wilson they might have been able to keep it a more interesting mainly because the SC QB Beecher was terrible and the State defense had USC in check. Daniel Evans is a great kid who I just don’t think has division 1-A skills. As for the rest of the game, Tony Baker showed some promise as did the State defense, but someone is going to have to step up to prevent a long season. Most of USCs earned points came with the State defense worn down and frankly they did not impress me as a team that will compete in the SEC. It’s still early and a lot can change during the season.

I really do hope Russell Wilson is able to recover quickly and rejoin the team. What little I saw of him was promising and he seems to be a real good kid.

I have to add that since Chuck Amato left, it has become a whole lot easier to pull for the Pack.

SC didn't get fired up until after halftime. That motivational speech(chewing out) in the locker room didn't help state any.

Well on the bright side...........

Sulk is all I can say, I saw some cheap shots.

Evans can not read a defense or lead a receiver, I am sure he is a nice person.

...and Glennon off the redshirt list.

This does not bode well for the rest of the season. Too bad about Wilson; he looked about pi better than Daniel Evans. Lord, please send the Wolfpack a reciever and an offensive line.

But their first 10 points were handed to them and their offense really didn't start cranking until late when the Wolfpack defense was worn out. I guess they looked pumped later when they were up by 20-34 points but in my view most of the game lacked emotion.

I agree this did not bode well for the Wolfpack. Click to view my profile

34 freakin' points. (I'm sure it felt like 37 though)

"Neither team appeared that fired up"

Ummm.... How can you say that South Carolina wasn't FIRED UP?!?!?! They scored 37 freakin' points. This drubbing has to be embarrassing for the Wolfpack.
