dole hasn't done squat for nc?
Published Aug. 21, 2008I received several emails requesting me to repost this - so here it is. Apparently I posted it a little late yesterday
Liddy hasn’t done squat for NC….
I hear this a lot from people. And then I ask them, what are you basing this on? The primary response I get? “You never hear anything about her!”.
LOL I would like to take this opportunity to remind you….
How do you know when a Republican is doing their job? The media completely ignores them.
There is no benefit for the liberal media to project postives when a person holding office is doing well when it is not “their” candidate. They can’t find anything negative to say about their work, but they sure as heck don’t want to say what good they are doing, so they just don’t say anything at all. Though I agree with a comment someone made yesterday. The media preys on negative situations (what sells) - you most likely don't hear alot of positives about any politcian short of the ones they really want to push.
Apparently however, recently Pigs flew and I missed it!!!!!!
The N&O actually did some research and reported that the ads being shown (particularly one about the ties to big oil) recently against Dole were misleading (big surprise).
How about this tidbit of information (Tidbit.. get it?? LOL) Hagen and her husband own oil wells and profit from the companies that use that oil! (the very thing the ads claim Dole does) IF I were Hagen, I’d be asking those ads to be pulled before she gets caught in the cookie jar! (See Kay Hagens own personal finance disclosure) You think she's not profting from the high prices of oil per barrel?
Fact: Kay Hagen's husband is a partner in several oil and gas drilling companies that own wells in 5 states. These are not stocks or funds. These are actual companies. NO WONDER Hagen wants in the Senate so badly.. Talk about oil buddy system! (Told you Democrats could play that game)
IS THE AD ACCURATE?
In large part, no. The ad does not back up its claim that Dole has given "billions ... in tax breaks" to oil companies. The $7 billion figure cited is wildly inaccurate, because it refers to legislation from before Dole's time in the Senate and is not even properly termed a "tax break." The $2.6 billion figure is also misleading, because it leaves out the offsetting tax increases in that bill.
So… what has Liddy done for NC? I won’t do all the work for you but I did some:
- Just for you peeps against “Big Oil”???? In July Dole introduced “The New Clean Energy Tax Extenders Act” which would repeal more than $17 billion in tax credits to oil companies (YOU OIL COMPANY HATERS SHOULD LOVE HER!) AND redirect that revenue to investments in alternative and renewable energy resources
- The President is about to sign the ok for a bill she initiated allowing for extending the family leave act to 6 months for family members of wounded veterans when the family member is needed as part of the care. The issue arose from a family in New Bern where the son (military) is in a vegetative state in the Chicago Vet Hospital. The father (In New Bern) had to quit work to be able to help take care of his son. There are other situations where the family was needed to help in the rehab process and they couldn’t stay away from their jobs long enough without losing them.
- She fought (and won) to keep the bases in NC from closing. AND in the process helped create another 9,000 jobs on Ft Bragg alone.
- She was one of the major players in finally getting some of the Tobacco settlement funds (roughly 18 billion $$) to the state of NC. Of which –why don’t’ you ask Easley how he misspent those and is being investigated on where those funds went (because there were specific things each state was required to spend those funds on)
- She is currently working with a Democrat from California on specific gang legislation, that seems to be taking off with both parties backing while at the same time obtained a significant number of federal funds for law enforcement officials to be able to deal with gang activities.
- She has worked with and compromised with Democrats on the most recent energy bill (showing the can get what NC needs in compromises and ignore strong party divisions)
- She has officially only missed 5.3% of her votes since being elected in 2002.
- Previous comments on Golo have stated she votes on GOP lines all the time. They are partially correct. The exact number is 88.4% of the time. Which means she is capable of going against the GOP when it matters and reaching across the isle and compromising
- She recently (07/31/08) voted against the 2 houses adjourning for a recess because of the important legislation that was still pending (while democrats overwhelming felt the American people weren’t important and they needed a vacation)
- In July – she took the floor and urged all the bi-partisan bickering over energy and come up with a compromise and comprehensive solution
- Dole is also working with another Democrat on legislation that will extend unused military benefits to the spouse or child of a deceased veteran or service men/women who die during service.
- She was the initiator of the bill that increased educational funds to children of deceased veterans
- Dole was able to secure major concessions in the DR-CAFTA that addressed concerns of NC textiles losing business (which benefitted our local manufacturing and textile industry)
- She sponsored legislation requiring the Dept of Commerce to self-initiate anti-dumping cases when faced with evidence that textile dumping has occurred
- She secured a significant amount of federal funding for NC to hire additional customs agents to monitor incoming textiles (which also created more jobs)
- She was able to extend and improve the Trade Adjustment Assistance Program, which provides a benefits and training safety net to workers whose jobs have been lost to global trade.
- She was against the Federal Mandate of 9 billions gallons of ethanol be used as a renewable fuel, that was being increased to 11.1 billion gallons in 2009 citing that it is hurting North Carolinians with increased food prices and an increase in energy costs.
- Dole crossed the isle to support Democrats on a bill to overhaul the Higher Education Act, which allows for more funding to student who are studying in high demand fields such as nursing or education. It makes college costs more transparent and simplifies the FAFSA (which was needed so badly!!!) by reducing it from 7 pages to 2! AND gives members of the military the ability to defer federal student loans repayments interest-free while on active duty.
THIS My friends is just the tip of the iceberg of her accomplishments for NC. I didn’t even go into the medical costs she has helped get for NC to save some of the hospitals and keep them from going out of business and keep them operational.
I didn’t even mention all the help for the farmers she’s gotten. (which is why farmers support her).
I personally don’t like all her backings and legislation. But only an idiot would say that Dole hasn’t done anything for North Carolina.
What has Kay Hagen done except decorate shoes with red glitter and send them to Dole? (Insert maniacle cackle) "I'll get you my pretty!" LOL I can't wait to see what Hagen will do if she gets Senate seat, I'd rather see her replace Burr (what a joke he is). LOL if something doesn't go her way, she'll yell at Pelosi "I'll sick my monkey minions on you!!!" and run off crying
And yes by the way I'm biased on this one. I don't agree with Dole 50% of the time. But she's honest, fair and up front. She won me over way before she was a senator with her leadership in the Red Cross where she fought for many human rights causes (INCLUDING Aid to Darfur YEARS BEFORE Darfur was the "in thing" to protest). Many causes you probably don't even know about. Dole really does care about people.

First Dole does live here. However, She represents NC in washington. Her husband lives/ works in Washington. Why would she NOT live in Washington where can get to her job to represent you everday?
They are in a break - she's here in NC right now during the break. She comes home to NC every chance she gets.
My question to you is this OTB: Do you expect her to travel back and forth on tax payer money to NC an Washington every weekend just so she can make you happy and "live here" then fly to DC to do her job during every week to get NC what it needs? Or does it make more sense to stay in DC where she can get to her job to represent us and come HOME to NC during breaks

Dole is not someone who runs around going "HEY LOOK WHAT I DID LOOK LOOK LOOK LOOK!". I admire that. But to her error in not doing so, many people have no idea what she has really done to benefit NC. So, I personally took on the responibility to do it for Dole.
Now, if Kay Hagen has any actual accomplishments other than the profits I have found she and her husband are basking in from high price oil, I'll find out and will post her accomplishments as well.
