A Connecticut man has been sentenced to more than four years in jail after confessing to sexually assaulting a child during an interview for a state trooper position.
Jon Van Allen, 39, of Winsted, Conn., thought he'd still get the job as a law-enforcement officer even though he admitted to fondling a young girl twice in 2000, when he was working as a U.S. Marine Corps recruiter, the Register Citizen reports.
Van Allen was taking a polygraph test for the state trooper job in March 2007 when he made the confession that he'd molested the 9-year-old girl because he was curious, the paper said.
He reportedly told police that he thought he had to be truthful to get the job.
Litchfield Superior Court Judge Michael Sheldon said it was bizarre that after Van Allen's "moment of catharsis" he still thought he could get the job.
"I did this to myself," Van Allen told the paper. "I realize I am not part of that society and I do not want to be a part of that society."
The judge sentenced Van Allen to four-and-a-half years in jail on the risk of injury to a minor and fourth-degree sexual assault charges.

Yea, but if he was an army recruiter then he would have had to be at least 18 at the time. 18 vs 9. Still, was there a hearing?
