indiana jones movie review

Published Jun. 3, 2008

Ok, so it appears I am 0 for 2 for summer movies…kind of. DH and I saw Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls yesterday. While purely out of nostalgia and my love for Indy movies (at least #1 and #3), I did find it entertaining. Entertaining enough to recommend spending your hard earned money for, probably not. While I did like it more than Indy #2 (that is not saying a whole lot), it was not as good as I was expected it to be. When I hear the names Steven Spielberg, George Lucas and Harrison Ford all together for one movie I was expecting magic. It didn’t deliver. There were lots of déjà vu moments (maybe too many). Nothing seemed fresh or new. With all movies there is that suspension of disbelief we all must deal with. We can watch someone spray hundreds of bullets around our hero and accept that the hero can take one shot and wipe out the bad guy without a scratch… I found myself not “buying” it and a lot of other things with this movie. Maybe it should be titled Indiana Jones meets Close Encounters… I won’t say anymore because I don’t want to play spoiler for those that may choose to go and see it. So all and all it was a disappointment, but somewhat entertaining, if nor nothing else but a love for the Indy series. Maybe I'll have better luck with M. Night Shyamalan's The Happening, or the Sex in the City movie... I'll keep everyone posted.

ja, I enjoyed Speed Racer...mainly because Emile Hirsch is just...really hot with that little curl on the forehead. We went to see it in imax, so he was very large haha.

It was a good movie if you didn't expect much from it.

I don't know what to think about The Happening, I guess I'll have to wait for reviews to make up my mind if I want to go see it in the theater or not.

The Strangers looks good, too!

Private - I would consider the 30's and 40's serial adventures to be more "campy". The second Indy did not come across that way to me, but then again that is just my perspective.

"Private Pyle - I thought the second Indy was just kind of silly especially with the little kid and ditzy blonde..."

That was the point, it was supposed to be silly in the 30s and 40s serial adventure way.

I saw the midnight showing because I am such a geek! Even for an Indiana Jones movie, it was a bit farfetched. The whole alien ship at the end was stupid. The action was good, however, and I loved seeing Harrison Ford put on the fedora again! He's older and that is certainly not hidden, but still, he's got "it"! I loved how he played the role as if to say "Indy's back people, and I love being here!"

My daughter wants to see this so either DH or I will take her to see it. Since he seemed to like Speed Racer (I did not), I think I will take her to Kung Fu Panda (at least I can have some popcorn).

Best - I enjoyed The Village - his twist of it being modern day did get me. Lady in the Water was marginal at best IMO. But I have really enjoyed all his others. Sixth Sense being the best, Signs being next. I even liked Unbreakable (even if a bit slow). So we will see.

Ja, I am however going to give M. Night, one more shot. and go see the Happening. This is his final shot in my opinion.

"Maybe it should be titled Indiana Jones meets Close Encounters…"

AGREED. Man, I was expecting ... something, but that was not it. It earned a definite yawn from me.

ja, you like M. Night? I thought the Village was one of the worst movies I had ever seen in my life. It just didn't deliver ANYTHING. You expected something that just wasn't there.
