movie review-into the wild

Into the Wild

I saw this movie this past weekend.

Directed by Sean Penn, this is a true story about Chris McCandless, who, after graduating from college, donates $24,000 (nearly his entire life's savings) to Oxfam International, destroys all of his credit cards & ID documents & sets out on a crosscountry drive towards his ultimate goal: to live alone and off the land in Alaska.

Along the way, he meets many unconventional people. He arrives in Alaska nearly 2 years after his initial departure.

I thought this movie was very thought-provoking and I highly recommend it.

I haven't seen the movie but when i was living in Alaska in the 1980's there was a story circulating about some cheechako nut who went out into the wilds with only a backpack and gps system so when he ran out of food he called for help and the pilots had to go fish him out. They were not happy. He had no return plan other than relying on the ems system. Ak is full of nuts. Fun place to live for a few years. yes, that does makes me a nut too. It was a blast moving there for 3 yrs. Glad to come back to the lower 48, tho.

Good movie. Strange story, but good movie.

Don, a moose was slaughtered & eaten.

i read the book yrs ago and I believe the main character was an egotistical airhead and VERY selfish to do this to his family.

What kind of person goes into the wild like that without being trained, not knowing how to preserve food and not knowing what is poisonous.

either way the book was great

Were any animals harmed in the filming process?

I might go get that tonight! Thanks.

You're right DJM. I just saw it online. My bad, Bless. I don't know where I came up with 74!
