what cars are good on gas?.......
Published Apr. 9, 2008I'm talking 30 mpg or better? Anyone on here have cars that get that many miles per gallon. If so do you recommend it? I'm so sick and tired of paying high prices plus the fact it's killing my wallet. I'm thinking very seriously of trying to find a good used car just to drive back and forth to work. It's been so long since I've bought a car I don't know what's out there. If I could get by on 50 bucks a week in gas I'd be a happy camper!

I also have 2 friends who've got the Honda Fit. One of them has the base model (it gets better mileage than the sport version) and he got 46mpg on a recent trip from Ohio to Florida (mostly highway, they took the kids to Disney).
A lot of the mpg for these lighter cars depends on the driver and where they drive.
I just couldn't take the higher car payment plus higher gas prices... when the Jeep hit the 2008 worst cars for the environment list, I really knew I couldn't keep it.. that was sorta the icing on the proverbial cake.
Btw, I used to drive a diesel Rabbit in the late 80s that got about 55mpg.
Same for the old Civic hatchback we had that was unleaded.

I have to disagree, never buy a mazda, the guy at AAMACO transmissions says he does 1 honda to 10 mazdas. Mazdas have really bad transmissions!!

The Civic used a much different type of engine, had less power, and was also a much lighter car. I've owned a 1986 Civic Sedan and a 1990 Civic Hatchback... both got around 45mpg.
