I would like to get University level teaching position when I finish – in about a year and a half if things go well.
About the computer, it was a NCSU machine, located on the 2nd floor of Riddick Hall. I bought one just like it from State Surplus (about 1975) for a couple of hundred dollars. The original purchase price for those machines was well over $100K. I put it into my basement and actually got it working again. I expect that I really had the first “personal” computer in Raleigh ....

I’m not particularly smart, but I am VERY persistent. Most of the time, that’s all it takes.
I expect that if I could have afforded to go straight through that I would have taken that route. Unfortunately, I’ve always had to work and go to school at the same time.
As I’m fond of saying, “I was born handsome instead of wealthy”. (That’s a joke, of course.)
The kids that have the opportunity to go to school and not work at the same time really don’t appreciate what they’re being offered ...
Best of luck with your school work,

Sorry ‘bout that.
Turns out that there is an El Greco painting of the same subject material. Not nearly as nice – IMHO – as the sculpture but it’s definitely a painting.

This is the second time that I’ve been back. I picked up a BS in ’69, went back and finished a MS in ’86 and now, 22 years later, I’m trying to finish up a PhD.
My area is electrical. Unlike a lot of other engineering disciplines, electrical changes and continues to change. A lot. For example, the first computer that I programmed was in 1963. It was an IBM-1620 with 10 Kbyte of core storage. It wouldn’t fit in my basement.
It’s hard to believe that I’ve got a thumbnail drive that is 4 Gbyte.
I decided to go back so that I could hopefully teach at University level. I’ve picked up a lot of tooth marks over the years as a working engineer. Maybe I can pass some of the experience onward to the next generation ....
