movie review: kite runner

Published Mar. 6, 2008

All I can say is....WOW!

The Kite Runner tells the story of Amir, a boy from the Wazir Akbar Khan district of Kabul, who is haunted by the guilt of betraying his childhood friend Hassan, the son of his father's Hazara servant. The story is set against a backdrop of tumultuous events, from the fall of the monarchy in Afghanistan through the Soviet invasion, the mass exodus of refugees to Pakistan and the United States, and the Taliban regime.

I knew this was a book/movie combo. The book was the 3rd best selling book for 2005. I have not started on the book but definitely will after seeing the movie!!!

So the rest, I will let you determine on your own.

Enjoy!

tmedlin, yes I believe you are correct. Here's a coupe of articles about it.

The point of contention is not graphic, more it is left up to the imagination. However, I understand the parents fear based on their culture and customs.

Isn't this the movie that showed a graphic rape of the young boy? I believe he had to be evacuated from Afghanistan because of reprisals against him and his family for allowing him to be in a movie that depicted that graphic rape...and I believe I read something about the producers not fully disclosing to the family, the nature of the scenes requiring his participation... I may have the movie all wrong, but I believe there was HUGE controversy about it...

Loved the book. Will check out the movie. Thank you for the review.

I will add this to the Movie Review collection. Thanks! -Angela

The book is very good.
