meet "ladyblue" | the first golo profile

Published Feb 4, 2008

The subject of our first GOLO profile is the lovely Ladyblue. I had an opportunity to speak with her over the phone this afternoon, and this is what she had to say:

Angela: Tell me about that blue Chevelle you often mention.

Ladyblue: I bought that thing in 1973 (laughs) and I paid $1,500. That was a lot of money. It was new/used. Back then I could be plenty full on $15. That was way back then.

Angela: Your profile says your education isn’t “top of the world.” Do you think people care about that?

Ladyblue: I did when I joined GOLO because it was the first time I’d ever been into personal computers and I thought all of these people are so educated because in my time college wasn’t that important especially for the females. I thought everyone would know I wasn’t educated.

Angela: What do you think now?

Ladyblue: I don’t have these bachelor’s and master’s degrees but from my experience I feel like I’m qualified to talk about a lot of different things.

Angela: So what do you think about people with degrees but not much common sense?

Ladyblue: I think they spent too much time reading the books and not living the experience. They only know from the author’s point of view. They don’t know there are other views out there. An author only tells what he knows on a subject.

You can tell me how to make a cake, but if I don’t have that certain ingredient it won’t be the same as that author’s but that doesn’t mean I didn’t get that cake right.

Angela:
That’s right! Yours could be better.

Ladyblue: (Laughs)

Angela: What are some of your favorite subjects to talk about on GOLO?

Ladyblue: Controversial or regular?

Angela: Any, both…

Ladyblue: My favorite controversial subject was trying to get people to understand that the world has done so much changing that these narrow minded people have got to change. You know what I’m talking about. 30 years from now if they can’t open up their heads and see that things change and you have to change with it, they’re gonna be in trouble.  You’ve got to understand that things change.

Angela: What is it that people don’t understand about you?

Ladyblue: People argue with me on the fact that they think I’m some Southern Baptist, Judgmental person. I am not trying to judge anyone. I hear them say those things but I don’t even attend a church. I got my religion from me and my bible and what I interpret it to be. I interpret the whole Bible, not just individual scriptures.

The Bible was written a long long time ago and the words don’t mean the same for us now.

Angela: You wrote on your profile that GOLOers had finally drove you to drink. Why?

Ladyblue: I live in an apartment with very elderly mindset individuals who believe you should live the way they live. When they (GOLO members) get in there and start squabbling and bickering, I have no where to go to escape. That was meant as a joke.

Angela: So tell me about the Wii issue?

Ladyblue: I just found out yesterday that it’s a technology game. I thought they were talking about World War 2. I tried to read the blogs and I thought “why are they talking about World War 2.”. I’m thinking “what kind of game is world war 2.”

(We are both laughing hysterically)

Angela: Were you popular in high school?

Ladyblue: No. You wouldn’t believe that. I was very shy.I had one girlfriend, Diane. And she’s still my girlfriend.I lived in the country and I was a scary cat because my parents were very strict. I didn’t date.

Angela: You said earlier that you went wild after you moved away from home.  What did you do?

Ladyblue: I moved to Fayetteville with all of them military people. My sister in law ran a bar/lounge and I helped her out in the beginning. My brother in law left me with her. She didn’t speak much English. She was from Germany.

Angela: What were you like back then?

Ladyblue: I was 19 and had never been away from home. Had just got my first car which was a 1950 Chevy, called Lulu.

Angela: Why was her name Lulu?

Ladyblue: Because she was bought from a lady who had to quit driving and her name was Lula. So I named it Lulu.

Angela: What would most people find shocking about you?

Ladyblue: They don’t know that I’m in chronic pain because I’ve learned to live and laugh it off as opposed to taking the drugs they offered.

Angela: What kind of drugs?

Ladyblue: They tried me on Percocet in the mid 70’s and I wouldn’t take them because I tried them and I didn’t like the fact that the pain would still be there but the brain was gone.

Angela: Have you ever gone on a diet?

Ladyblue: Oh yes. When I left high school I weighed 200 pounds. I went to California and I lost 100 pounds by dancing three nights a week and swimming in the pool.

Angela:  Do you have a favorite friend on GOLO?

Ladyblue: Um, I can’t say. I have several favorites. Lolly was my favorite first because she took me under her wing.

Angela: Who makes you mad, and then makes you glad?

Ladyblue: I guess we can say Decker because he and I will get at it, then we talk for a while, then we’re back at it.

Angela: How many comments do you think you post a day, a week?

Ladyblue: If I’m having a good day I would say, I hit 50 or more, not counting the blogs.

Angela: What do you miss most about the 1960s or 70s?

Ladyblue: People have gotten so busy now trying to survive that you don’t have time to enjoy each other. And the time you’re spending you’re watching the watch because you have to go somewhere else. You used to have a couple of hours to chat with your friends now everybody has to be somewhere else.

Angela: Thank you for chatting with me Ladyblue. What can we expect from you next on GOLO?

Ladyblue: I am going to write a heart-to-heart blog on the difference in the technology and communication of where it used to be and what we have now as it relates to the war.  Now they can send e-mails and keep close contact with the family. It wasn’t always like that.

Angela: Thanks Ladyblue

Ladyblue: You're welcome, sweetie.

okay just stop by to read the interview with ladyblue. I know right ... I seem to be pulling up the rear. Nice job though I really enjoyed this addition to golo and getting to know more about lady blue.

Great interview lady blue. You are the "First Lady" of golo!

Ladyblue...congradulations!! I think you're officially a celebrity!! I really enjoyed reading this blog about you. Angela did a fine interview!! She has the makings of a future WRAL anchor!! Heheeeee...imagine that!

On a more "realtime" comment about you Ladyblue...If everyone was as polite and nice as you, and showed the same respect as you do for your fellow GOLOers...there would be no need for that "delete" button nor the "blocked" button we have at our hands. Nor would WRAL need a 7 to 7 timeframe for allowing people to post on their news stories. It would be like the good ole days - 24 hour posting. I finally had someone make me mad in one of my blogs the other day. I took it personal to. I didn't think that could happen, but the subject matter they bashed really hit home. Thank you Ladyblue for setting a great example for others to follow. It's people like you that GOLO is counting on to make this place a nice community for us all.

Great interview. Kind of feels like I actually "know" you now! And I have to share teh name of my first car...Bessie Mae. I named her that because Bessie may make it to our destination and Bessie may not!

Awwww i loved this interview=) Congrats Ladyblue...you sound like a very warm hearted person. I look forward to your blog!

Congrats LadyBlue!! And you are a great "first pick" for GoLo!! You are a perfect example of how people should act on here with being friendly and civil to everyone!! Best to You!!

Patricia, You are such a celeb !!!!!

Look--An X What???Is that a computer gizmo too. I know folks were fighting over them for Xmas.

Patrica - Your a Star now. Can I have your Autograph???? Love ya to much!
