movie review: the golden compass

Published Dec. 11, 2007

This past Saturday night my nine year old grandson and I went to see "The Golden Compass".  As avid movie-goers we had looked forward to the movie after seeing the great previews.  While I was unfamiliar with the story, my grandson was not. He shares a love of books with his mother.

The movie special effects were fantastic and the story was entertaining, creepy, fun and unexpected. What child (from 9 to 90!) doesn't like heroes bigger than life, villains over the top, a battling bear for a protector, and a young girl who never gives up trying to save the day.

The movie ends setting everyone up for the next installment in the trilogy.  My grandson and I can't wait to see how our young heroine saves....... Whoops! Almost spoiled it :)

I also enjoyed it. It was very entertaining. :)

I am almost finished reading the trillogy myownself, I have about two hundred and someodd pages to go. I plan on going to see this movie on saturday and I also plan to judge it against the book. I hear the ending is different...which I don't particularly care for, as it DOES leave room for a sequel...but they haven't filmed it yet pending overall reaction and profits from this one.

It would be odd to just film this one part without an answer to the question of if she saves erm...yeah.

Hey studweiser Christians are in an uproar because the author himself said that we wrote the books as an anti-Narnia series. He has been quoted as saying that he knows that he is in the Devil's camp. He is anti- Christian and anti-God so therefore you can not really expect Christians to welcome the movie and books with open arms.

I have not seen the theme bashing about it... but if it is from a socio-chistrian belief tennant (with some of the things represented in the movie I can definately see where it is from) but those offended should, and this is really my honest opinion, should really sit back and think twice about your understanding of faith, belief, and beyond.

I saw this movie this weekend as well... freaky isn't the word for it, I liked the realization of some of the very complex concepts preseneted from the respect od quantum theory, "Dust" it's what all ties the whole universe together. Being an animal lover it really touched my heart there!

nicole doesnt care what the author represents, ITs all about her bank account.

*dispite

Dis[ite all the controversy, it does look like a good movie.

Thanks for the review. I always love watching movies like that. Looking forward to seeing it.
