Misys Healthcare closes on Allscripts deal, takes Allscripts brand

Misys Healthcare closed Monday on its acquisition of Chicago-based Allscripts on Monday. The merged company offering a variety of electronic medical records solutions will be known as Allscripts.

The headquarters of the combined operation also will be based in Chicago. Misys Healthcare had maintained its home offices in North Raleigh. It is part of U.K.-based Misys.

Misys Healthcare did acquire more than a 50 percent interest in Allscripts, which maintained a major presence in Cary. Allscripts had acquired Cary-based A4 Health Solutions.

According to media reports, the Allscripts employees in Cary will be transferred to North Raleigh. More than 40 people were laid off last week when the firms moved toward final merger. However, the new operation does have some 100 job openings.

"AllscriptsMisys has the size and scope to bring real transformation to health care by using our software to connect physicians and other key healthcare stakeholders to the information they need to deliver higher quality outcomes," said Glen Tullman, the chief executive officer of AllscriptsMisys. "We want to eliminate the paper, the waste, the errors and the patient inconvenience associated with today's health care delivery system and, working with our clients, we know we can. Our goal is to empower the best physicians and care-givers in the world with the information they need to deliver world-class care, while at the same time supporting them with revenue cycle management and (electronic data interchange) platforms to help them better manage their own bottom lines."
