Morrisville, N.C. — Cinnamon Peripherals has signed on as a sponsor for the Insight Racing team, which is preparing a vehicle to participate in the Defense Advance Research Project Agency’s “Urban Challenge.”
Cinnamon, a French company, providers PC peripherals. Its “CinaMount” products are being used to house the Macintosh mini computers being installed in the Insight Racing vehicle, a Lotus sports car.
The Urban Challenge, which is set for Nov. 3, will feature autonomic vehicles navigating an urban environment.
Insight, which is working in partnership with North Carolina State University, competed in the 2005 DARPA event across a desert landscape. Cinnamon also sponsored Insight in that event.
"The CinnaMount mini is an essential element to our DARPA solution,” said Grayson Randall, the founder and team lead for Insight. “Using a Lotus Elise sports car, it is crucial that we mount all our equipment compactly, but with the correct spacing for air flow. The CinnaMount mini is the perfect solution. We are very impressed with this product."
