Research Triangle Park, N.C. — Quintiles Transnational, one of the world’s largest contract research organizations, recently reached the 300 mark in delivering clinical trial results utilizing electronic data capture.
Quintiles began use of EDC in 1999. But nearly a third – or 94 – of the EDC trials were launched last year.
The 300th trial is a Phase II study for Pacgen Biopharmaceuticals, a Canadian firm.
"At Quintiles, EDC is quickly surpassing paper in the collection of clinical trial data as customers are placing increased value on our ability to give them expert guidance in the appropriate use of this technology, as well as the potential for savings in time and cost," said Paula Brown Stafford, Quintiles’ executive vice president for global data management and biostatistics.
"We have been able to demonstrate for the pharmaceutical and biotech industries that EDC, when used properly, can make much better use of available resources,” she added.
