RTI Hires Team of Researchers for Women’s Health Effort

RTI International is expanding its efforts to improve women’s health, hiring a team of researchers who had been affiliated with the University of California at San Francisco.

The Women’s Global Health Imperative group will be based at RTI’s offices in San Francisco. Six researchers are involved in the program, and they will be full-time employees, according to a RTI spokesperson.

RTI also will work with the Pangaea Global AIDS Foundation on HIV and AIDS programs. The foundation is led by Nancy Padian, who also was the senior director of the WGHI at the university.

"These scientists and the Women's Global Health Imperative will play a key role as we expand our global health research program," said RTI Chief Executive Officer Victoria Haynes. "Together they bring a tremendous amount of energy, talent and experience to RTI in the area of HIV/AIDS and women's health. We are very pleased and proud that these well-respected and accomplished researchers have chosen to join us."

The addition of the researchers will augment RTI’s scientific efforts as well as implementation of health programs, according to RTI.

"We are excited about the opportunity to continue and expand the work of the Women's Global Health Imperative at RTI," Padian said in a statement. "RTI has a great team of researchers and a tremendous project management capacity with many new opportunities that will help us expand the reach of our programs, interventions and training."

Padian is actively involved in prevention of HIV with an emphasis on female-controlled means of preventing the disease.
