Director of Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine To Keynote Biotech Conference

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – Anthony Atala, a world leader of research that could lead to development of replacement organs and tissues, will be among the keynote speakers for Biotech 2007.

The 16th annual biotech conference, put on by the Council for Entrepreneurial Development, is set for May 14-15 at the Marriott at the Civic Center in Durham.

Atala, an MD, is senior researcher and director of the Institute for Regenerative Medicine at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. He also is the department chair at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine, a pediatric urology surgeon, and has applied for or received more than 150 patents in the U.S. and internationally.

“Dr. Atala is a true pioneer in regenerative medicine,” said CED President Monica Doss. “With a deep understanding of next-generation medical treatments, Atala will offer a distinctive and valuable perspective at this year’s conference.”

Also scheduled to speak is former U.S. Senator Tom Daschle.

The biotech conference is put on by the CED in conjunction with the North Carolina Biotechnology Center and the North Carolina Biosciences Organization (NCBIO).
