Raleigh, N.C. — American Airlines will begin nonstop service between Raleigh-Durham International Airport and London’s Heathrow on Saturday.
The move makes RDU one of American's seven gateway cities to Heathrow, the world’s busiest international airport, which offers connections to cities throughout Europe and the Middle East.
American had offered daily nonstops between RDU and Gatwick Airport in London since 1994, but a new “open skies” agreement between the U.S. and Europe lifted restrictions on transatlantic flights, prompting the switch to Heathrow.
The daily flight will leave RDU at 6:25 p.m.
American offers 19 daily nonstop flights from RDU to seven destinations. Its American Eagle affiliate offers 47 daily departures to 12 destinations.
